It is so strange to watch us - consumers - following specials, weekend offers, credit card promotions, closing down sales, home bargains (including home loans) etc.
It must be an instinct of old hunters that makes us run, drive and even fly for promised best buy deals. Without even thinking we are ready to spend more money to purchase more goods. Very often we do not even need them!
Best Buy Sale is Just an Opportunity to Spend More on Products You Do Not Need!
Remember those packs of DVDs, china, toaster and vase you bought on after-Christmas specials to present as gifts next Christmas? Where are they? The truth is - you will probably fail to find them in your house.
The intention was good and looked smart but the result is miserable - what you got as best buy will be found 10 years later when you move the house. And money - it is gone to the manufacturers to produce more stuff you do not need.
Why do we hunt for best buy?
Buying is relatively new to our civilization. Just 200-300 years ago consumers used to produce necessary things themselves or were using barter. Today we are so spoiled that we are even lazy to grow our own herbs. The reasoning for purchase has changed. It is not just because we need something but also:
- Looking for ways to spend because we get a bit more money than we need
- Spending is a form of entertainment
- Buying new things we learn about technology, opportunities etc
- Socialising in the shops we fill the hunger of seeing other people
- We are conditioned to play "savings" game
Our unconscious desire to achieve the best buy must be a substitution to hunting. Can we control it? The answer is - Yes!
If you realise that your motivation for purchase is not accompanied by real need, human curiosity and sufficient time to research the features and enjoy the process of buying - you should try to restict your desire to buy.
That is how you really save money or use it smarter.

Best buy wars
It is always a war - sellers against purchasers. Even selling house you are a buyer because you buy the service of real estate agents. Sellers are well prepared. They are backed up by marketing departments, advertising agencies and customer service training. Sales representatives know everything about our weak spots and use them. Under their pressure we easily give up getting in return a tepid joy of buying a new fridge, fresh bread, or fixed TV.
We were taught mathematics and English at school, psychology at uni, people skills at work. Most of us however have never been guided how to buy products or services.
Purchasing process is not just about getting the best price. It is a complex process that can lead to complete disappointment, partial satisfaction and rarely to happiness with purchase.
Learn to enjoy your smart purchase.

Would you take a course?
Imagine you found an ad about new course: "Smart buy instead of Best buy". Would you take it if you had enough time? Such a course would have saved you a lot on your purchases. Alas.. You can take a course on selling, marketing - but hardly a consumer oriented course on purchasing skills.
How would you know what to do when buying a car, buying LCD TV, buying a house or even buying clothes?

Eventually for many of us time for investing comes. Going to financial advisers in most of cases will not provide a clear solution. You will need to analyse a lot of inforamtion wether you neeed to invest in property, invest in automotive franchise, invest in shares or even go with gold futures.
That has never been easy but in any way - do your home work and do not take risk before you understand the implications of investment: tax, risks, long or term etc.
